West Greenland "Skin on Frame" Kayak Building Workshop
Depending on your paddling needs, your West Greenland kayak will measure approximately 3 times your height and be as wide as your hips plus 2 fists. This is an opportunity to have a custom kayak built to your measurements and requirements by a proven kayak designer.
Using simple hand tools each kayak is built of natural materials in a traditional manner.
Wooden frames are pegged and lashed together. No screws, glue or other fasteners are used.
You may choose to cover your kayak with either natural canvas or a 12 ounce nylon. The covering is stretched and sewn on by hand for a tight fit.
You will receive all finishing hardware and with one last talk on safety you will leave with a complete kayak awaiting final painting and curing time at home. A sea sock is also provided, custom sewn to your frame's dimensions.
